Interior Design Trends for 2022
If there's one perfect moment to update your home, it's at the start of a new year.
In 2021 in home decor, we saw the blending of style and practicality as a large group of us continued to spend more time at home - upgrades like geometric accents gave us something captivating to look at each day.
But what's to come in 2022? We've searched far and wide in the business to uncover the top trends for the year ahead. Our in-house designers are in agreeance that we'll see some new colour palettes along with unique furniture choices. If your new year's resolution is to give your home a makeover, this is the perfect place to get inspired.
1. Biophilic Design
Get ready, plant lovers! Biophilic design is set to become the next best thing in 2022. Biophilic design seeks to connect our inherent need to affiliate with nature in the modern built environment. There will be an emphasis on creating calming environments with natural lighting and ventilation, incorporating plants and creating a visual connection with nature.
2. Bold Patterns and Colours
We'll be seeing bold colours and patterns from the '60s and '70s and green in all shades as we continue to bring the outdoors in. To use these elements in contemporary decor, there are several options. For example, if your current decor is cottage style, the rich greens and warm reds of the ’70s will pair wonderfully with natural stone and wood. The living room is a perfect place to bring vintage colours into your decor since earthy colours create a relaxing vibe that people will want to socialize in.
3. 3D Wallart
We will see a push towards 3D art in 2022. People are looking to add whimsey, intrigue and life to flat walls as we continue to spend more time in our homes. Any art that pops right off the wall, and can be configured in different ways, is going to be popular. This look can easily be achieved with the help of any CNC cutting service.
4. Sustainability
Sustainability is a topic on the rise, we can expect to see a lot of thought going into the selection of materials. New material options are becoming more readily available with each passing day. With the combination of innovative materials and reusing the old (or shopping second hand), we'll see a rise in one-of-a-kind spaces being created.
5. Mindful and Multifunctional Spaces
This year will bring about a deeper awareness of our spaces and the impact they have on our emotions and wellbeing. We will see more spaces that have personality and personal ties to the interests, hobbies and pleasures of their owner. This will also strengthen the idea of multi-use rooms. For example: having your living room be part office.
6. Curved Finishings
Furnishings of white oak with curves bring a fresh and soft wavy feeling. From curved corners within walls and cabinets to curved backs of sofas, dining chairs and arched cabinets, the angular line of furnishing is softening. Furniture and decor elements are slowly moving away from the hard geometric look.
7. Colour of the Year
Pantone, the global authority on colour, has picked “Very Peri” as the colour of the year for 2022. The company describes Very Peri as “a dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone blends the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red”
